Shipley

Shipley is a market town located a short distance from Bradford and close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire. Shipley has some great places to eat out, from the Aagrah restaurant, established in Shipley in 1977 and still serving delicious Asian dishes to The Tapas Tree offering spanish and mediterranean cuisine in the heart of Shipley and plenty of other choices in between.

Shipley Open Market provides a focal point to the town centre; the open market operates on a Monday selling a great selection of second-hand items and bric-a-brac. On a Friday and Saturday, a wide selection of goods and fresh food products are available on over 40 stalls.

To the North of Shipley, across the River Aire, is a wooded ridge called Shipley Glen (the word "glen" referring to the little valley beneath the ridge). This has long been a popular beauty spot, and in 1895 the Shipley Glen Tramway was built to carry visitors up to the top. The nearby Leeds - Liverpool canal is also a pleasant place for a stroll or cycle. Follow the Airedale Greenway to the Five Rise Locks at Bingley or take the Canal Road Greenway into Bradford city centre.
