We know our district sparkles with cultural delights and now more than ever we want you to enjoy them. Lots of experiences have moved online, but as our museums, galleries and attractions start to open we’re here to put them in the spotlight.

VJ Day 75

Events to mark the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day on Saturday 15 August.  Just because these celebrations are no longer taking place doesn’t mean that we can’t all mark this momentous day in other ways.  Please share your stories, photos and videos on social media using the hash tag #BradfordVJDay75

A special service to mark 75 years since VJ Day will be streamed online on Saturday 15th August 2020 at 12noon by Bradford Cathedral.

Thornwood Alpacas
Alpaca trekking, where Peru meets Bradford. This unique experience lets you
take alpacas on a relaxing walk through the Brontë countryside. The experience includes an alpaca talk, demonstrations, photo opportunities and feeding time. As well as a steady journey through the fields up to the Haworth moorland.  Book Now!
Bingley Gallery
Local artisit David Starley has joined with three other artists to present a tree-inspired exhibition at The Bingley Gallery.  During lockdown many artists were able to use their time creatively and unsurprisingly the local environment provided much inspiration.
Bronte Adventures
Visit and fall in love with Haworth.  Every Saturday this summer take a socially distanced guided walk with Bronte Adventures - Book a 9 mile guided Haworth walk across the moors taking you to all the key Brontës landmarks.
National Science and Media Museum
National Science and Media Museum in Bradford has revealed it will be opening its doors again this summer, from Wednesday, August 19.  The museum will be open between 10am and 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday, operating with a ticket-only system for general visits.  The museum shop and café will also be open from the 19 August. Pictureville screen will reopen on Thursday 17 September 2020, and the IMAX and Cubby Broccoli screens will open on Friday 2 October.
'Back in Steam' Summer
Make one of your first post-lockdown days out one to remember with a special steam-hauled journey through the Worth Valley with the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. From 19th August until 30th August, trains will run on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays. We’ll also be running on Bank Holiday Monday (31st August). Pre-book tickets.
Bahamas Locomotive Society / Rail Story
The Bahamas Locomotive Museum (The Engine Shed at Rail Story) at Ingrow West Station on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will reopen to the public on Sunday 2nd August. The Mayor of Keighley will perform a short re-opening ceremony at 11am to welcome visitors back. Visitors can join guided tours (bookable on site on the day) at half hour intervals through to the closing time at 4pm. The museum will open every Sunday in August from 11am till 4pm. All safety and social distancing measures will be in place.
Ilkley Manor House

‘Inside Out’ with the Ilkley Manor House, activities and points of interest for all age groups. Find a selection of self guided walks to explore landscape and heritage.  Walks begin and end at the Ilkley Manor House and there's a puzzle trail perfect to keep the family entertained. On a fine day enjoy the Riverside Walk, walk past the Riverside Hotel on the river side path and continue over the small bridge
over the stream to Paradise Park before the large bridge.

Salts Mill, Saltaire

The Salts Mill complex will re-open on August 14 and its opening hours for the month are as follows:

  • August 14, 15 and 16 - Open
  • August 21, 22 and 23 - Open
  • August 29, 29, 30 and 31 - Open
  • September opening hours will be announced later

The Brontë Parsonage Museum
The Brontë Parsonage Museum and shop will reopen to the public on Saturday 29 August.  Admission will be by pre-booked timed-ticket only and tickets will go on sale from the Parsonage website at midday on Friday 21 August.
Impressions Gallery
Impressions Gallery delighted to be re-opening on 2 September 2020 with a new exhibition, Seedscapes: Future-Proofing Nature. Premiering at the gallery before moving on to galleries in Exeter and Scotland. The exhibition features the work of five artists responding to global efforts to save plants from extinction.
Young People's Events
Ilkley Literature Festival offers a range of exciting events for young people aged 12 to 18. Whether it’s the chance to meet your favourite author, become a journalist for the day, or take part in creative writing workshops, our events for young people are sure to inspire.
The Live Room at Saltaire
A series of online gigs from The Live Room, Saltaire.  TLR Live Online is broadcast each weekend, with UK, US and Australian acts lined up.  For details and tickets to support live music.
Bradford Literature Festival
Watch previous Bradford Literature Festival events on demand. More than 30 new films and interactive workshops have been created, featuring children’s authors, storytellers and poets, focussing on National Curriculum objectives, whilst also being fun and entertaining.

The programme aims to inspire, energise and support children and families to increase physical activity levels through movement and play.
Saltaire Festival Online

The Festival and other partners have commissioned 2 local artists, Alice Withers and Karolina Haluszczak to create and curate a visual archive of what the residents of Saltaire have been doing during lockdown.

Residents have also been invited to submit their own photos/video of what they have been up to, The idea is that they post on their own Social Media page and use the #saltairelockdownarchive 

Open Gardens has been a popular feature of Saltaire Festival for the last few years but this year owing to Covid-19 restrictions we are launching a virtual competition.

If you live in Saltaire or Hirst Wood, we are inviting you to enter the competition by submitting three photos of your outside space.  Rance Booth Smith will as usual award a cup to the winner.
